Christopher Donoghue is a sociologist interested in bullying, belonging, and resilience. He also enjoys writing fictional stories about family secrets and domestic suspense.

Earning a D+ in freshman year at Seton Hall was a gut punch that nearly convinced him he didn’t belong in college. But instead of quitting, he came up with a strategy that he still follows today. Often it doesn’t work and he fails like everyone else, so learning the power of resilience was his biggest game changer. In his talks on bullying and belonging, he shares these lessons learned.

Christopher is Professor of Sociology at Montclair State University where he has led the MA in Social Research & Data Analysis, the Penn Resilience Program, and the Sense of Belonging Project.

Outside of work, he is a fiercely passionate fan of the entire Star Wars universe. In 2020, he co-founded The Mudtroopers, a group of sci fi fans that still meets in person and online to discuss classic films and TV shows. He’s also a hobbyist with interests in droning, robots, video editing, and deep song lyrics.
